Read Psalms 75:1 through 77:20; Acts 23:23–25
Some people have experienced times when God seemed far away, times when they’ve wondered if He heard their prayers. During those times they may have questioned whether God really cares about them.
The Psalmist put words to these feelings rather than shoving them down deep inside. He remembered what it was like to feel close to God. And he talked about how different it was. In the depth of his despair, he brought his questions and doubts to the Lord.
“Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?” (Psalm 77:7–9)
God didn’t say, “You shouldn’t feel that way.” He didn’t scold the Psalmist for doubting Him. And He didn’t defend himself. He didn’t need to. The evidence of His faithfulness and love were facts that could not be denied. The Psalmist chose to look at what God had done in the past and to believe the future could be better.
Prayer Suggestion: Tell God your needs and thank Him for His answers.
