Read Ezekiel 43:1 through 46:24; James 5:1–20
A favorite hymn at this time of year is “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” where the words recall God’s compassion and mercy as they review how faithful He is.
The Lord is full of compassion and mercy (James 5:11).
Compassion means a “sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it.” Mercy and compassion are so intertwined that many of the definitions in the dictionary for mercy include the word “compassion.”
Although God is holy and cannot look at sin, He had compassion on humanity and sent His Son to die for the sins of all people.
Christians should reflect God’s mercy and compassion to others. This can be accomplished by meeting the needs of others, doing things like providing food and shelter, arranging for medical care, listening when someone needs to talk, and a being a friend.
Prayer Suggestion: Lord, may Your people remember Your compassion and mercy and show them to others.
