Read Isaiah 34:1 through 35:10; Galatians 6:1–18
Although individualism and self-sufficiency seem to be modern traits, they emerged in the Garden of Eden. These inclinations are addressed in Scripture, and Paul acknowledges these tendencies in the Church.
The body of Christ needs every member, and each has a role to fulfill. Christians are commanded to love and accept others, to help, encourage, and correct each other. Christians hinder themselves spiritually if they try to go it alone.
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2).
The Greek refers to bearing burdens beyond the normal load. Believers are called to come alongside their Christian brothers and sisters to assist them in their troubles. The Church functions properly when all work together for the common good. Christians are not to be motivated by self-interest or pride but by love.
As a coal of fire dies if separated from the rest of the blazing fire, a similar danger threatens those who don’t participate in the life of the Body.
Challenge for Today: Test your own actions to see if you measure up to God’s standards.
