Faithful Leadership

Read 2 Chronicles 14:1 through 17:19

Under John’s initial church leadership, people became more enthusiastic for promoting the kingdom of God. Involvement in local and worldwide missions grew, and worship became lively and meaningful. As the congregation grew numerically so did John’s arrogance. He believed his talents created growth, and he planned a grandiose building as a testament to his leadership.

When church elders challenged his attitude, John became furious, rejected all godly advice, and resigned. Bitter divisions ensued, and the church went into decline.

“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war” (2 Chronicles 16:9).

King Asa started his reign doing everything right in the Lord’s eyes, but later accepted bribes. When God confronted him through the seer Hanani, Asa refused to admit his error. He vented his anger on his people.

Stubborn refusal to admit our faults and sins can cause divisions and prevent us from accomplishing plans God has for us.

Prayer for Today: Holy Spirit, give us faithful leaders.
