Three Anxious Souls

Read Numbers 27:1 through 30:16; Mark 5:14 through 6:13

Anxiety is common to everyone. What will the doctor’s report say? Will the plane land safely in this storm? Where is my child? He is not home, and it is getting late. How will the bills be paid?

The people of the New Testament experienced anxiety too. A former demoniac was anxious to travel with Jesus after Jesus delivered him. Instead, Jesus told him to go home and testify about what had happened. A broken and impoverished anonymous woman was anxious to touch Jesus’ garment and receive healing. When she was culled from the crowd, anxiety became fear as she fell at His feet. Jairus was anxious for his sick daughter, and when the death report came, anxiety collided with grief.

Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe”(Mark 5:36).

Jesus raised up the twelve-year-old girl, to the astonishment of Peter, James, John, and the girl’s parents.

What are you anxious about today? Years after seeing the dead girl raised, Peter wrote, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

Prayer Suggestion: Lord,You know what I’m anxious about. I cast my cares on You.

Quicklook: Mark 5:35–43
