Read 2 Chronicles 8:1 through 9:31; John 7:37 through 8:11
Julie, a high school girl, got pregnant out of wedlock, but she continued going to church. Then, one day in the ladies’ room, she overheard some girls gossiping about her. That was the last time she attended for many years. When she needed support, her church friends failed her.
“Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her” (John 8:7).
Christians often categorize sin. On a scale of one to ten, some rate immorality as a ten but gossip as only a three. Others may rate hatred a five, unkind words a six. God doesn’t see sin that way. He says everyone has missed the mark. Jesus died for the gossiper and for the fornicator.
When a Christian sins, God’s people are to love and restore them, not gossip or avoid them. Since everyone has sinned, everyone needs grace. Church is not a club for righteous people but a group of people rescued at a terrible cost.
Challenge for Today: Show Christ’s love to someone needing grace today.
